Matteo Marchisano-Adamo is an award-winning filmmaker whose productions and photographic field projects span the globe. His cinematic language is defined by the technical convergence of musical architecture and large-format black-and-white photography. Drawing on a rigorous foundation in classical piano developed in the 1990s under Ferenc Rados at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Matteo constructs edits around counterpoint, harmonic space, and dynamic tension, treating narrative momentum as a temporal composition.

This structural rhythm is paired with an uncompromising visual sensibility honed through medium- and large-format analog photography. By translating the discipline of physical negative development, tonal ranges, and chiaroscuro lighting into the moving image, he approaches framing and pacing with geometric precision, deliberate spatial depth, and an unhurried, observational eye.

Matteo is a lifetime member of the American Film Institute, where his motion picture work earned multiple awards. His career encompasses high-level achievements across directing, editing, and consulting producing. As an editor, he has collaborated extensively with director Julie Dash on landmark projects, including HOMEGOING (commissioned by The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA) and her film for Vogue, alongside cutting the CBC documentary An Improbable Dream, which garnered a Telly Award for motion picture editing. As a director and producer, his documentary feature Ten Days with Art, produced for the Arthur Secunda Museum, won Best Art-Related Documentary at the AIFA in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led location production in Northern Hungary to co-produce and direct the ethnographic documentary Summon Back the Sun, documenting regional community traditions under severe global constraints.

His ongoing practice explores human presence, authorship, and emergent cinema through the film-essay series LIMINAL INTELLIGENCE, alongside continuous observational film and fine-art photographic studies along the Sea of Cortez. Born in Flint, Michigan to an immigrant household, Matteo divides his time and work between the United States, Mexico, and Europe.
